Celtic wanted to sign Sondre Ørjasæter before he completed a move to FC Twente in August. Brendan Rodgers was then in charge at Celtic Park and was said to be keen on securing his services.

Two months ago, the 22-year-old confirmed Celtic were serious, but they couldn’t strike an agreement with the Norwegian club.

The Norwegian has now spoken to De Twaalfde Man. Twente Fans have relayed his comments about picking the Dutch club over Celtic.

Prior to joining Twente, Ørjasæter spent his short playing career, including his spell in academies, in Norway.

He is of the belief the Scottish football doesn’t suit him. Therefore, the winger wasn’t keen on joining Celtic and favoured a move to the Eredivisie side last summer.

“But I don’t think the type of football they [Celtic] play there suits me best,” he said.

“The Eredivisie has proven to be a very good platform for young players like me, and there are a lot of technically skilled footballers.”

According to the attacker, he didn’t have much time to decide whether to join the Dutch club in August.

“I didn’t have much time to think about whether I wanted to go to FC Twente,” Ørjasæter explained.

His compatriot, Mathias Kjølø, has been with the Eredivisie side since 2022. However,  Ørjasæter says he didn’t have chat with Kjølø about the possibility of joining Twente.

Deciding against Celtic seen as right way forward

Ørjasæter insists it was easy for him to pick Twente amid interest from Celtic and doesn’t regret his decision.

“Of course, I knew that last season they were narrowly eliminated in the Europa League group stage against Bodø/Glimt. Everyone I spoke to about the club talked about the fans and how Twente played,” he added.

“It wasn’t that difficult for me to decide. I didn’t contact Kjølø about it beforehand. I can still speak Norwegian with him. It’s also nice that he can help me learn Dutch quickly.”
