Celtic were ready to sign Frosinone’s Fares Ghedjemis in January. A move never went through but there are no regrets about the player’s decision.
Sport Witness covered how there was initially surprise about the Hoops offer. It was very much in line with the winger’s valuation but the player ended up rejecting the move, as he was keen on staying.
Frosinone have sealed their return to Serie A. This is in no small part down to Ghedjemis’ vital contributions, as he’s scored 15 times in Serie B. In 2026 alone, he’s scored nine times, and contributed two assists.
The player has now opened up on what happened when Celtic came knocking for him.
Ghedjemis goes public
The Algerian winger spoke at Frosinone’s celebratory event yesterday and he was asked specifically about the decision to stay.
He made it clear that the atmosphere at Frosinone forced him into rejecting Celtic.
The attacker said – via Ciociariaoggi: “Absolutely. That’s also why I didn’t leave in the summer. I could have, but I felt an energy that made me want to stay. And I’m happy with my choice.
“I’m proud and happy. We worked so hard, and I’m truly happy to have brought Frosinone back to where the club deserves to be: in Italy’s top flight.”
The Algeria international was also asked about his plans for the World Cup.
He responded: “Yes, let’s hope so. There are so many people, so much competition. I hope I’m up to it. Playing in the World Cup would definitely be fantastic.”
With Wolves and Norwich City linked with a move, Ghedjemis hinted at his future.
“Let’s see. Right now I just want to enjoy the season we’ve had. Then, when the time comes, I’ll also think about the transfer market.”
Celtic hopes all lost
There have been suggestions that Ghedjemis is now keen to move to the Premier League. That is why Wolves or Norwich City might not appeal to him, with the Midlands club now in the Championship.
This stance should also rule out a move to Celtic.
