At the end of the 2016/17 season, Gael Clichy, Aleksandar Kolarov, Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta left Manchester City and they signed Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo in the subsequent window.

The Brazil international moved to the Etihad from Real Madrid and has been a versatile addition.

Danilo has given an interview to Radio Marca and explained that fear of not making it to Selecao squad for the 2018 World Cup was the reason behind his decision to swap Los Blancos for the Premier League outfit.

“I was happy and comfortable at Real Madrid, but I wanted to go to the World Cup. There were incredible moments at Real. You learn how to win at Real Madrid,” he said.

After having made only 13 starts in the league during City’s title winning campaign, Tite picked Danilo for the trip to Russia last summer.

At the Etihad, Danilo has won the EFL Cup and the Premier League and is on course to win the cup competition for the second season in a row after City qualified for this season’s final.

The player has stated that his objective is to win the Champions League with the English club.

I want to be in the final of the Champions League against Real Madrid, but it would be very difficult. We still have to evolve a lot as a team to achieve that goal,” Danilo added.
