Following recent claims from the Spanish and English media regarding Liverpool’s chase for Enzo Fernandez, we now get to see an update from Argentina about that saga.
On Twitter, journalist Juan Pablo Varsky writes it’s ‘true’ that the Reds have been after the Benfica star, and approached him with a ‘contract offer’.
However, it’s also made clear that Liverpool are only in touch with the player’s entourage so far, because according to the report, the Anfield side are still to start any talks with Benfica.
Varsky then brings two factors which may make the Reds’ pursuit a little more difficult. One of them is his release clause at the Eagles, since that’s of €120m.
Then there’s also the fact that Real Madrid have the player ‘on the radar’ and should provide some competition for the signing.
Liverpool’s chase for Fernandez had also been highlighted by the Portuguese media at the weekend, since Benfica president Rui Costa claimed the club won’t let players go in January for less than the release clause.
Therefore, Jurgen Klopp’s side may have to choose between paying €120m now or wait for a more reasonable price next summer.
