The Brazilian media continues to say Luizão is about to become a West Ham United player.
The latest update on this story comes from Gazeta Esportiva, who claims that following unsuccessful talks between São Paulo and the Hammers, the London side ‘stopped being responded to’ by the Brazilian club.
It’s said West Ham would let the Tricolor keep 15% of a future sale, plus get €1m from performance bonuses. That bid, however, was turned down.
The Hammers were just trying to give São Paulo some kind of compensation for the move, as per the player’s initial wishes. Luizão’s contract with the club expires at the end of January, and he’ll soon be free to sign with the Premier League side.
So after seeing the negotiations collapsed, there ‘was no option left’ for the defender but to sign a pre-contract with West Ham, leaving the Brazilian club were no money.
Gazeta Esportiva writes that the pre-contract with the Hammers is currently being analysed by the player’s legal staff, and he’s expected to sign the deal in ‘the coming days’. Unless São Paulo decide to release him, he’s set to move to England only at the end of January.
