Earlier this week, we relayed news from Spain that Atlético Madrid have shown interest in Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez.
On Thursday, Marca reported that Manchester City closed the door on the La Liga side, after they made ‘official contact’ for the striker. The Citizens have insisted he will continue at the Etihad.
Mundo Deportivo journalist Xavier Bosch indicates the 24-year-old is open to leaving Manchester City in the summer window.
Pep Guardiola has used Álvarez regularly in the last two years, but the player is behind Erling Haaland in the pecking order.
Bosch says the Argentina international is in search of ‘quality minutes’. He could ‘evaluate offers’ to leave the Premier League winners, and become a star at another big team.
Álvarez played 36 Premier League games for Manchester City in the recently concluded season. Bosch points out he completed the full 90 minutes in 15 matches, and the South American isn’t pleased with this.
With Atlético keen, the journalist asks whether Diego Simone can ‘find a way to seduce’ the frontman. His deal lasts until 2028, but he seems to be convinced to leave Manchester City in the next window.
Bosch ends the report by stating: ‘To avoid any punishment, City will be forced to sell someone’, suggesting the financial guidelines will have such an impact, although that may be incorrect.
