Brentford’s Mathias Jensen has been encouraged to consider a move to FC Copenhagen in the winter market.

BT journalist Jakob Kløcker talked about the 29-year-old midfielder for the outlet’s podcast, BT Fodbold.

Jensen has been a regular for Brentford since joining them from Celta Vigo in 2019. He maintained his place even after Keith Andrews replaced Thomas Frank, making 17 appearances so far this season.

BT point out the Denmark international is in his final year of contract at Brentford. Their journalist believes he could leave the Premier League side and return to his country in the next window.

“Mathias Jensen has six months left on his contract with Brentford. I know that he earns a good salary in London and that he has been given a little more playing time lately. But I could imagine him wanting to go home to Copenhagen with his family,” he said.

The journalist doesn’t seem to have taken into account that the Bees have an option to extend his contract for another year.

Jensen graduated from FC Nordsjælland’s academy and spent three years [between 2015 and 2018] with their first team. He then moved to Spain before leaving Celta Vigo for the London club a year later.

Brentford, who are currently 15th in the table, haven’t qualified for Europe. Copenhagen, on the other hand, are in the Champions League this season.

As well as being close to his family, Kløcker believes the sporting aspect can be tempting for the player at Copenhagen.

“He has achieved everything he can achieve in Brentford. At FCK he would be able to try to win championships and play in the Champions League,” Kløcker explained.
