As Portuguese newspaper Record today reports that Sporting are in talks to extend Marcus Edwards’ contract with the club, they give a mention to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur interest in the player.
It all starts with the Lions rewarding the forward for his current form. They’re willing to raise his yearly salary from €700k to €1m, and also bring his release clause from €60m to €80m.
Edwards seems keen on signing that, but he has the ‘dream’ of heading back to England and playing in the Premier League.
The outlet explains that Tottenham and Chelsea both have him ‘referenced’, but are still to make an actual approach for his signing.
Edwards has one goal and two assists for Sporting this season, and is still hopeful of getting a call-up from England.
It’s worth recalling that the winger used to belong to Tottenham, who let him move to Vitória Guimarães for free in 2019, keeping a percentage of a future transfer.
Due to his later transfer to Sporting and then the move of Pedro Porro to Spurs, the London side now have 25% over Edward’s future transfer.
That would make him cheaper for them than for Chelsea.
