Fulham’s move for Lyon forward Ernest Nuamah collapsed on deadline day of the transfer window as the player disappeared following a medical.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the player left Fulham’s entire medical department in the dark after disappearing following tests.
The newspaper explains what went on with Nuamah on the final day of the window after he appeared to be close to a move to the Premier League, before seeing it all fall away.
They state that Lyon, and specifically John Textor, had been planning to sell the winger at the end of the window and managed to secure three Premier League offers for him.
One of those was from Fulham and they pushed ahead of the rest of the pack. Nuamah initially showed resistance, insisting that he was happy in Lyon and planning to buy a house there.
He saw the efforts of the club to move him on, though, and so reluctantly accepted the transfer. This prompted Fulham to send their entire medical team to Lyon on Thursday evening to conduct tests on Nuamah on Friday and then have him sign his contract.
Friday came but several witnesses described a ‘very affected’ Nuamah, who was even in tears at points during the medical process. Then, just before the end of this, the young Ghanaian ‘disappeared into thin air’.
According to the report, the winger could not be found by anyone, not even his agent, and never returned to sign his contract with Fulham.
That ended the transfer there and then, with Textor later sending a letter of apology to the player for trying to force him out. Nuamah responded by pointing out his desire to remain in Lyon and that he could have went to the Premier League straight from Denmark if he had wanted to.
He chose Lyon for a reason and wants to play with them in the Champions League and thus had no interest in Fulham, resorting to extreme measures to ensure the move didn’t go through.
