Stade de Reims’ Maxime Busi has expressed his delight that manager Will Still didn’t leave the Ligue 1 side for Sunderland.

The defender has been speaking to Sudinfo to discuss several topics, including his recovery from an injury this season and why his move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise didn’t take shape.

The 24-year-old was then directly asked how he and his teammates experienced the recent saga linking the Reims manager with a move to Sunderland.

When responding to that, the Belgian stated he wasn’t surprised that his compatriot was subject to interest from the Championship side and other clubs.

“It doesn’t surprise me that he’s in demand, because he does great things. We knew that there had already been other approaches, before Sunderland. There is a lot of light on him and on Reims, it is also good for the team,” he said.

The player has also suggested that managerial changes during the season indicates clubs aren’t doing well.

“Personally, I think that leaving in January is rarely a good idea. This means that the team to be taken over is in a bit of a crisis,” Busi explained.

“I don’t know if it’s ideal for him. But if he finds a project that interests him and Reims is also there…”

On December 18th, Sunderland appointed Michael Beale as their new manager, two weeks after parting ways with Tony Mowbray.

Prior to Beale’s arrival at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats had looked at a few other candidates, including Stade de Reims’ Will Still and Kim Hellberg, who reportedly decided to join IFK Värnamo over the English club.

Sunderland are currently in seventh spot, three points behind West Bromwich Albion and Hull City, who are fifth and sixth respectively in the table.
