The Premier League side strengthened their left-back position by signing Omar Richards, Harry Toffolo and Renan Lodi. The latter arrived on loan from Atlético Madrid, after the club failed to sign Álex Moreno.
On Tuesday, the 29-year-old admitted his love for Real Betis’ fans convinced him to turn down an approach from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
The Spaniard has played every minute in the league this season and was on the bench during his side’s Europa League win against HJK Helsinki.
AS on Wednesday explain the defender started this season ‘with the same version that dazzled everyone’ last term.
Moreno intends to be a key player under Manuel Pellegrini, in order to make it to the 2022 World Cup with Spain. His wish is to go to Qatar, even though he has not yet made his debut for La Roja. The newspaper says the player ‘fires his candidacy for the national team’.
Moreno’s decision to snub Nottingham Forest could help him have more prominence at Real Betis, and in return improve his chances of representing Spain in Qatar.
The newspaper states: ‘He has not yet been called by Luis Enrique, but his cards are on the table to be one of the most feasible routes in his next calls. His virtues are similar to what Luis Enrique is looking for: he has speed and constant overflow capacity when he appears in three quarters of the field.’
Doing all this on a regular basis in La Liga is a good way to catch Luis Enrique’s attention.
