Wolverhampton Wanderers pursuit of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi may have been handed a boost as his girlfriend has approved of the move.
That’s according to Blick, who say Nico’s longtime girlfriend has been in Wolverhampton for the past few days to look at the city and its surroundings. She reportedly ‘gave her okay’ to a potential transfer.
Elvedi himself had already been ‘convinced of a change’ this summer, with the chance to work under Julen Lopetegui ‘decisive’ for him.
The Spanish coach wants to play possession football and views Elvedi as his dream solution to replace Nathan Collins, who has joined Brentford.
English media have reported that an agreement is in place but according to Blick that is not the case and negotiations are still underway. On the plus side for Wolves, though, there is a belief that ‘an agreement is foreseeable’.
Gladbach won’t put any obstacles in the player’s way, particularly as his contract is set to expire next summer and this is their last chance to get a fee for him.
The belief, at least in Switzerland, is that there is a deal there to be done and the player should start a new chapter in England this summer.
Indeed, they believe that if an agreement can be reached quickly, Elvedi could join Wolves for their pre-season trip to Portugal, which starts on Friday. His girlfriend approving the switch to Wolverhampton is certainly seen as a positive step.
