Aurelio De Laurentiis has long seen himself as a strong man in the transfer market.
That’s worked at times for the Napoli president, but at others it very much hasn’t and has seen him get lower fees for players than he would have got had he accepted reasonable offers earlier.
Right now, that’s quite possibly the process Victor Osimhen is going through. CalcioNapoli24 report the player is ‘convinced’ that ‘in the end’ he’ll end up at one of Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal this summer.
However, none of those are likely to go anywhere near his €120-130m release clause. The only club who will do so is said to be Al Ahli.
They’d pay the player €15m a year after tax on a three year deal, but he’s not interested and wants a move to the Premier League.
There’s been previous hints in the Italian media that Napoli will drop their requests, although they’ll have to do so by quite some way to tempt Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal.
The 26-year-old has a contract running until 2026, and Napoli don’t have all the time in the world on their side.
