In the final week of the summer window, Leeds United tried signing PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo and Marseille’s Bamba Dieng to bolster their attack.

The Dutchman rejected an approach from the Whites, while the Ligue 1 side had agreed a deal for Dieng’s sale.

However, the move didn’t materialise because OGC Nice wanted to hijack the deal and found an agreement with their Ligue 1 counterparts on the deadline day.

Despite this, Dieng’s move to Nice collapsed after they found a problem during his medical, meaning his decision to snub Leeds didn’t pay off.

L’Equipe on Monday explains that Royal Antwerp have seriously studied the possibility of bringing the 22-year-old before the window in Belgium closes on September 6th.

The issue is that the Jupiler Pro League side didn’t have a chance to open talks with Marseille because the forward did not want to move to Belgium.

A move to Royal Antwerp would have improved his salary and there was a real chance for the player to enjoy more game time.

Dieng wants to continue at Marseille, where he has a contract until 2024, even though he is no longer the first-choice player.

The Senegal international continues to suffer following his decision to snub Leeds.
