Wolves finally parted ways with Fábio Silva in the summer window. He’d arrived from FC Porto in 2020 but never really found a place with the Premier League club.
No less than four loans then followed, with the 23-year-old having temporary spells with Anderlecht, PSV, Rangers and Las Palmas. The latter was by far the best loan that Silva had, and there was an assumption he’d end up elsewhere in Spain.
The style of football there perhaps suited him more than the other four countries he’d played in since leaving Portugal. But, as has repeatedly seemed the case, things dragged on, and multiple clubs came and went.
Whatever Silva’s camp were asking for had put off a whole string of potential buyers. Borussia Dortmund managed to agree a deal at the end of August, but not before they’d also had problems.
Medical issue during transfer from Wolves

During his medical with BVB – who paid Wolves more than €20m – an injury was found. They went ahead with the transfer anyway and Silva made his debut in late September.
He’s had nine appearances in total, but they’ve amounted to around 100 minutes. There’s a reasonable chance he’d have got more had he stayed at Molineux.
Sky Deutschland’s Dennis Bayer reports the player is unhappy with his the limited playing time.
He ‘desperately’ wants to be at the World Cup with Portugal. That was always a big ask, and it’s an impossible one if he’s not playing and scoring goals.
Therefore, Silva is considering a ‘lightning-fast exit’ from Borussia Dortmund. His contract there lasts until 2030, maybe another succession of loans is on the way… and further questions about career management.
