On July 11th, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who stated Liverpool are interested in Espanyol’s Leandro Cabrera.

Three days later, another Catalan newspaper Sport explained Jürgen Klopp believes the centre-back can be a ‘very useful’ signing for the Reds.

With Espanyol relegated, an earlier report from PericosOnline suggested a clause in the 29-year-old’s contract will allow him to join a top tier club on loan, as long the side take care of his full wages.

The Merseyside club’s interest in the Uruguayan got a mention in the weekend edition of Sport.

Sport cite claims made by COPE that the South American ‘intends to continue’ with his current employer, amid rumours Liverpool are after his signature.

Cabrera’s contract with Espanyol runs down in 2024. According to the report, the player remains committed to the club’s new quest of returning to the top flight and doesn’t see with ‘bad eyes’ leading the new project at RCDE Stadium.
