South American clubs are always proud of seeing their former players doing well in Europe, and that’s no different with Racing and Carlos Alcaraz, who could be swapping Southampton for Brighton & Hove Albion soon.
The 20-year-old may have left the Alavaneda side for the Saints in January, but they still follow him and are concerned about his situation in English football.
That’s why outlet Racing De Alma today features a story on Alcaraz’s future, analysing what should happen to him following relegation to the Championship.
It’s claimed that in the past few days, three clubs, including Brighton, approached the player to learn about his situation and see what he thinks of his future at Southampton.
According to the report, even though Alcaraz is ‘comfortable and happy’ at the club, relegation does ‘have an influence’, and his priority is ‘not to play in the Championship’.
Benfica, Brighton & Hove Albion and AC Milan are said to be three clubs who are interested in him, although it doesn’t sound like they’ve placed bids for him yet.
The outlet even wonders whether the player would leave Southampton for one of the clubs in the Premier League’s big six, making it sound like the race is pretty much open for now.
Last week, however, reports had already claimed Brighton are the ‘most interested’ club, so they may indeed make a move before others.
