Wolverhampton Wanderers are getting ‘closer and closer’ to finalising a deal with Atlético Madrid for forward Matheus Cunha.

That’s according to AS, who say the striker ‘aims to leave’ the Wanda Metropolitano next month and Wolves are at the front of the queue.

They explain that ‘nothing has gone according to plan’ for the Brazilian this season, who ranks 17th in terms of minutes played, has only managed two starts this season and is yet to score, with the newspaper pointing out the ‘weight of the number nine’ shirt that he took over this season.

With Atlético out of Europe and a need to bring in money as a result, ‘all signs point’ to him leaving and there is an ‘closer and closer’ deal with Wolverhampton in the pipeline.

There is no mention of the nature of the deal from the newspaper, just a clear indication that negotiations are underway between the two clubs and getting closer to a conclusion.

That should come as good news for Wolves fans, who know their side are in desperate need of a striker in January if they are to get out of the relegation mire when the season returns.
