Three days ago, AS reported Arsenal and Newcastle United are among the clubs to have sent scouts to watch Gabri Veiga in action for Celta Vigo.
Operating in the middle of the pitch and as an attacking midfielder this season, he has eight goals and three assists to his name from 22 league games. His fine displays have not gone unnoticed in Spain and England.
Faro de Vigo state the 20-year-old is ‘closely followed’ by Arsenal, Newcastle and a few other English clubs. From La Liga, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are showing interest in him.
The Spain U21 international’s deal lasts until 2026 and includes a €40m release clause. The report states the price quoted here is ‘very affordable’ for the Gunners, Eddie Howe’s side and other Premier League sides.
It’s common for Celta to see representatives from clubs across Europe at Balaídos to watch the midfielder in action.
Faro de Vigo also spoke to two agents, Fran Villa and Iago Bouzón, to give their take on the midfielder.
“The player’s price is the one set by the clause. If Celta does not want to negotiate his sale, a club can pay the €40m and take Veiga without negotiating, depositing the money in La Liga,” Bouzón said.
Villa is of the belief the player has room to improve his game.
“He is standing out above expectations and he has room for much more, he is going to get better. The best Gabri Veiga is yet to be seen,” Villa explained.
