According to multiple reports in the Italian media, Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer towards agreeing a deal for Radu Dragusin.
Today, we’ve covered various reports and it would appear Genoa are trying to push the price as high as possible. There’s even been claims the Serie A side want as much as €35m for the defender, which feels ambitious.
Earlier claims in Italy had stated €25-30m would be enough, and even the player’s agent went public to say that’s the asking price.
Tottenham and Genoa are expected to meet again – whether that’s via intermediaries or directly hasn’t been made clear – and presumably work to bring their positions closer.
Napoli had also been keen but with the figures going higher they’ve been edged out of the race. Just like Spurs, they’re also in need of a defender, and if it wasn’t for the Tottenham then Dragusin may have been easier for them.
Former Napoli defender Fabiano Santacroce believes the club need someone more ready to be important for them rather than a player with potential.
Sport del Sud quote him as saying: “There is talk of an investment of €20m plus the price of the Norwegian Ostigard. Honestly it seems like too important an investment to me and, although it must be said that he is still young and very strong.
“Today’s Napoli needs a ready-made player, so in my opinion Dragusin would not be the purchase the Azzurri need now. The Neapolitan defense needs adequate experience and that extra tranquility that is currently lacking. A name? I really like Demiral and would find him suitable for this situation. You don’t need good prospective players, but ready-made profiles. Otherwise there is a lot of risk.”
Whether there’s an element of sour grapes in the forming of that opinion isn’t clear, but Tottenham will hope that should they seal the deal for Dragusin that he’s one for the present and future.
