On Thursday, L’Equipe reported West Ham United had returned with an improved bid of €57m to sign Lucas Paquetá, after their initial offer of €50m was turned away by Lyon.
It was also said the attacking midfielder’s agents are in London, while he is yet to hold talks with the Hammers over personal terms.
Later that day, Le Progrès stated a move to England attracts the 24-year-old, and that West Ham are joined by Newcastle United in maintaining an interest in him. The Magpies have so far not made an offer to secure his services.
Another report from L’Equipe now explains the Brazil international is ‘one step closer’ to leaving the Ligue 1 side.
Lyon have still to respond to the €57m bid made by David Moyes’ side and even though there is still no agreement between the two clubs, it’s claimed their ‘positions have come closer’.
In addition to this, the player is ‘close to finding a contractual agreement’ with West Ham over personal terms. Paquetá is ‘not far from finalising’ the details of a five-year deal with the Premier League club.
All parties involved appear to want Paquetá’s transfer to West Ham to take shape.
