Shoya Nakajima to Wolves started in the Portuguese press midweek and it was something of a surprise.

The Japan international has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but mainly with Leicester City as the reported destination.

English clubs do scout his Portimonense side, but Wolves aren’t among them.

Then all of a sudden it was reported in Portugal that a deal for the player was almost concluded and an announcement could be on the way within days.

The whole thing became less easy to brush off when Portimonense’s chairman spoke publicly and confirmed the possibility of a transfer, even saying his star player was 80% on the way to becoming part of Wolves’ squad.

Now Nakajima has spoken about the situation himself.

Directly asked about a move to Wolves, he didn’t want to mention the club specifically but made in clear he’s open to a January transfer.

Record quote him as saying: “Once the transfer window is open, changing clubs is something that anyone can think about and that can happen.”

The Portuguese newspaper say the player is ‘close’ to a transfer and that there’s ‘ongoing negotiations’ around the move.
