Surprising reports from Spain this afternoon claim that Martin Odegaard is ‘very close’ on leaving Real Madrid to joining Arsenal.

The claims come from Sport, who say the midfielder is ‘one step’ from moving to the Gunners on a loan deal.

The outlet says that the Norwegian starlet is unhappy with the lack of playing time at Real Madrid, and personally asked to leave the club for a side where he’ll have more minutes.

Sport writes that Mikel Arteta’s side ‘apparently advanced’ to take him to Arsenal, and he’s about to ‘take a flight’ to London.

It’s no secret that Odegaard’s situation at Real Madrid isn’t the best, and his wish for a move seems to be the main reason why he didn’t train with the squad today.

However, most reports from the Spanish media had been claiming he wanted to go back to Real Sociedad, for whom he played last season on a loan spell. Stories even said he had contacted the club himself.

So with Sport being a Catalan outlet, we’ll take the news about Arsenal with a small pinch of salt for now, and also wait until we see something stronger coming from the Madrid media.
