On May 31st, Mundo Deportivo reported Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is keen to sign Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in the summer. His deal expires at the end of this month and has decided to leave the Spanish giants as a free agent.
This is echoed by Diario de Mallorca, who then state the 26-year-old has received ‘two great proposals’ from Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Spain international earns close to €5m per year and didn’t have a prominent role at Real Madrid in the recently concluded season. The Villans could rescue him in the next window.
Aston Villa have made a ‘great financial offer’ and assured Asensio he will have ‘absolute prominence’ on the pitch. Emery wants him to be their ‘big star’ but lack of Champions League football could hurt the English club.
A move to PSG will see the attacker play in the Champions League but cannot be assured of having a prominent role in Paris. He now needs to make a decision on his future.
Over at Sport, they say the player is analysing the offers he’s received so far. Even though a final decision is not yet made, the newspaper states his ‘future is currently very close’ to Emery’s side.
Aston Villa are the ‘best placed’ club to sign him and ‘everything indicates’ Asensio will ‘close his transfer’ with the Premier League side.
Surprisingly, Sport doesn’t mention about PSG’s interest in their report.
