Newcastle United’s attempt to sign Sassuolo fullback Rogério has been covered by ESPN Brasil.

The outlet features a story claiming that last week, the Magpies submitted an offer worth €15m, and that was turned down by the Italian side.

According to ESPN Brasil, Sassuolo didn’t want to negotiate the player’s exit in the middle of the season due to their hope of clinching a spot for a European competition.

It’s said the Serie A club made a counter-offer, asking Newcastle United to put more money on the table, and the Magpies did not.

The story claims that Rogério is now looking for a transfer in the summer, as his idea is to move to a club with a ‘bigger international projection’ and draw the attention from the national team.

That plan is his ‘dream’, and Eddie Howe’s side can still make it come true.

There’s still hope that Newcastle will return for him at the end of the season. ESPN mentions that in case the Magpies don’t make a new offer by then, two other clubs have their bids prepared to sign the 24-year-old.
