Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg spent the recently concluded season on loan at 1. FSV Mainz 05 and he was a regular there, making 33 league appearances.
The centre-back has been out on loan since the start of the 2021/22 season. His deal with the Reds lasts until 2026, but he wants to leave Anfield, likely on a permanent transfer, in the summer window.
That’s according to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that the 22-year-old has ‘clearly informed’ Liverpool of his desire to leave.
After impressing during his loan spell at Mainz, the Dutchman has ended up on the radar of several clubs in Germany and England.
The journalist says several teams have already asked about him without providing any details about these clubs. He only mentions that Mainz are keen on retaining the Liverpool player, who would prefer to continue in the Bundesliga.
With Van den Berg wanting to leave Liverpool, Plettenberg claims he’s now ‘waiting for the green light’ from the Merseyside club.
The defender has made only four appearances for the Reds since joining them from PEC Zwolle in 2019.
