Perhaps one of the more boring transfer sagas of the summer transfer window, the exit of Sergi Canós from Brentford was well-documented by the Spanish media.
The winger was not part of Thomas Frank’s side for the coming season, and while they could have let him leave on a free, the Bees insisted on getting a fee, eventually pocketing €250k from his transfer to Valencia.
He is now a regular for the La Liga side, and recently scored a goal in the Copa Del Rey against FC Cartagena, using his post-match comments to take a bit of a swipe at Brentford in the process, as reported by Super Deporte.
Before we relay his quotes, however, it’s first worth remembering that Canós’ first-time with the Bees came during a loan spell from Liverpool in 2015, which eventually led to him signing full-time in 2017 after a brief one year spell at Norwich.
The Spaniard said: “I have always had confidence in myself and the truth is that it was a great goal. I’m very happy to help the team. I haven’t been allowed to shoot for seven years at Brentford, and now [Valencia] are insisting I have a go.”
During his two spells at Brentford, Canós managed to make 249 appearances for the Bees, scoring 36 goals and assisting another 33.
Since his move to Valencia, he has two goals in 15 appearances.
