Rangers manager Philippe Clement hasn’t relied on Cyriel Dessers for over a month as he’s clocked in just 121 minutes from the past 11 league games.

The striker has scored 13 goals and registered four assists this season, but the Rangers boss has started Hamza Igamane ahead of him in recent weeks. This has led to reports linking the 30-year-old with a move away from Ibrox in the winter market.

Recent claims from Italy have stated Empoli and Cagliari are in the picture to sign Dessers in January.

Voetbal International have published an interview with the Rangers player and Football Transfers have relayed his comments.

When discussing his current situation at Rangers, the Nigeria international insists it’s been difficult since Philippe Clement’s decided to leave him out of the starting lineup. Igamane has scored nine league goals and all of those came since the start of last month.

“Last month, I lost my starting position. The boy who is playing now is also a good striker [Igamane], he also scores. I try to support and help him, because I want the team to win, but it is difficult,” he said.

The former Feyenoord man’s deal lasts until 2027 and he feels the Scottish club could cash in from his sale in this window.

“I don’t know what my perspective is now. I can imagine that Rangers may now want to earn something from me,” Dessers explained.

“But January is a difficult window. Clubs that are doing well probably also have a striker who is performing well. And few clubs that need goals will immediately have the millions ready. It’s just a matter of waiting.”

Dessers would like to continue at Rangers as long as he can enjoy regular minutes and if not, he will have to consider an exit.

“I’m at a wonderful club, but I’m 30 years old and want to play every week. Preferably at Rangers. If there are different feelings about it internally, then we have to talk,” he added.

Dessers previously had spells at NAC Breda, FC Utrecht, Heracles Almelo and Feyenoord and would be open to returning to the Netherlands.

“Back to the Netherlands? Difficult. Feyenoord now has three excellent strikers. The other clubs I played for also have a special place in my heart. But I do have a certain price and there are only a few clubs that can afford that. In any case, I want to be in a serious competition for prizes. The fire is still burning,” he said.
