Joe Hart was the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic last season and his decision to retire in May has seen Brendan Rodgers’ side look for a replacement this summer.
The Scottish champions’ search will soon come to an end if a report from Tipsbladet is to be believed.
They state Celtic are set to sign Kasper Schmeichel, who has been without a club since his deal at Anderlecht expired on June 30th.
It’s claimed the Denmark international has reached an agreement with Celtic for a one-year contract.
The report adds the operation to take the 37-year-old to Celtic Park is ‘very close’, so much so that he will undergo medical tests with Brendan Rodgers’ side ‘this weekend’.
The stopper had an opportunity to extend his stay at Anderlecht, while there was interest from Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab Club. Tipsbladet claim he ‘chose to prioritise’ Celtic over these two clubs, after they entered the picture.
Schmeichel knows the Celtic manager from their time at Leicester City and the pair will reunite in Glasgow. This could be one of the reasons why he would have favoured a move to Celtic Park.
The former Leicester City man was part of the Denmark squad at the Euro 2024.
