Jornal dos Desportos, a Portuguese language sport newspaper, reckons there’s a good chance Pepe is off to Wolves.
The defender has just had his Besiktas contract torn up, something which had been predicted in the Turkish media for a while, and his salary has been paid up so everything is finished.
That means he’s a free agent and can sign for whichever club will have him. A move to China or the Middle East has been thought the likeliest, and there has been some weak claims of English interested, but Jornal dos Desportos are going for it.
They say the player ‘can travel to Wolverhampton’ to sign for the Premier league club on a free deal, and, of course, Jorge Mendes gets a mention as being right in the middle of it.
There’s no other serious claims of this so it doesn’t seem to carry a lot of weight.
Wolves don’t really need Pepe and his inevitable big wages, especially with someone like Leander Dendoncker, a player for now and the future, struggling so much for regular minutes.
This one feels unlikely.
