Last week, the Brazilian media reported West Ham United’s attempt to sign Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gomez in the summer.
According to Jorge Nicola and then ESPN Brasil, the Hammers made a bid of €18m to sign the player, which was rejected by his club.
The defender has given a press conference this week, and a reporter asked him directly about reports regarding West Ham’s bid in the summer, which led to the player commenting about his future.
He said: “I’m cool. I’m very happy here. My family is happy. I still have a contract with Palmeiras. I’m fine here. My intention is to play as much time as possible here in Brazil and at Palmeiras as well.”
Palmeiras recently used their buying option to sign Gomez from Milan in a €6m deal, so accepting West Ham’s offer would mean a big and quick profit for the club. But it seems the Brazilian side had bigger plans for the defender, who also doesn’t mind staying for longer.
Now with the Brazilian season coming to an end in a couple of months, perhaps West Ham could see another chance to sign Gomez in January.
