Arsenal and Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres is today featured on Record’s front page, as the Portuguese newspaper brings the first part of a very long interview with him.
With the strike surrounded by transfer rumours, the outlet couldn’t avoid asking him about the possibility of an early departure from Sporting, with that getting mentioned right at the start of their conversation.
Record mentions that Gyokeres has been linked to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla, and asked him how he reacts to those rumours.
“I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me… I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment. I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all.”
Asked whether he could promise Sporting fans that he’s staying at least until the end of the season, he said: “Yes. This is where I want to stay.”
He even claimed that’ll happen if someone shows up willing to trigger his €100m release clause.
It’s a fact that Arsenal and Chelsea could have signed Gyokeres for much cheaper, and Sporting only spent €20m to get him from Coventry City last summer. The striker had done well in the Championship, and is having a killer first season with the Lions, with 17 goals and eight assists so far.
