On April 10th, Calciomercato stated Aston Villa have made a rich offer to Mario Hermoso, a day after his agent said the defender is far from signing an extension at Atlético Madrid. His current deal will expire at the end of next month.
Later that month, Gazzetta dello Sport suggested Aston Villa are closest to securing a deal for the 28-year-old, after Inter Milan decided to focus on other targets.
The Spanish press have joined in, to cover Aston Villa’s pursuit of the centre-back as his future is covered by Monday’s edition of AS.
Aston Villa have looked at La Liga to strengthen their defence in the last few windows, signing Pau Torres and Álex Moreno from Villarreal and Real Betis respectively.
Unai Emery and Aston Villa director Monchi will focus on the Spanish league again and this time on Hermoso.
With no renewal in sight, the report states the player is attracted by the Premier League and the Spanish presence of Emery, Monchi, Torres and Moreno at Villa Park.
This, coupled with the economic aspect, would ‘tip the balance’ in Aston Villa’s favour to secure his services, amid interest from Inter.
Therefore, AS state Hermoso’s future could be in the Premier League and more specifically at Aston Villa. Online, the same outlet adds the player ‘approaches Aston Villa’.
