West Ham United and Southampton are in the picture to sign Amiens SC’s Formose Mendy in the winter market.
Earlier this month, there were claims of Hammers and RC Lens interest in the defender. The Saints have now been added to this list.
Wiwsport claim Lens made good progress to sign the 19-year-old with an offer of around €8m before the situation changed in recent hours because of West Ham and Southampton.
It’s claimed an agreement has ‘already been reached’ between the Senegal international’s entourage and David Moyes’ side.
Southampton, meanwhile, are still in the mix and have decided to negotiate directly with the Ligue 2 side for the player. It’s thought they’re unlikely to succeed because the centre-back ‘prefers to join’ West Ham over the Saints.
Operating in the heart of defence, Mendy has made 17 appearances this season for Amiens. He has two appearances for Senegal and those came in their friendly fixtures against Bolivia and Iran last September.
If Mendy agrees to join West Ham, Wiwsport don’t mention whether Mendy will be eligible to obtain a work permit to play in the Premier League.
