Sunderland had a very good summer transfer window, and Omar Alderete may be among the best signings they made.
That’s at least if AS are to be believed. They cover the defender today and are full of praise for his adaptation to life in the Premier League.
They say the Premier League ‘is amazed’ by Alderete. They then point out that he is currently leading Sunderland to the Champions League and was recently in the best XI of the weekend. He’s only the second Paraguayan to do that.
According to them ‘few predicted’ such a ‘brilliant debut’ for Sunderland, or indeed, the player. He currently ‘stands out from the rest’ in the Black Cats squad.
As far as they’re concerned Alderete is ‘emerging as one of the sensations’ of this Premier League season. That deserves praise given he cost Sunderland ‘just €12m’ to sign from Getafe.
He’s ‘exceeded all expectations’ and the stats back that up as well. They’re clearly big fans of the player, who they felt was ‘one of the most underrated’ in La Liga.
They even say he was ‘scorned’ in Spain, whether this was because of marketing or the fact he’s Paraguayan. That’s not happening at Sunderland, where he’s already an ‘absolute idol’.
It’s all very positive and there’s perhaps even some regret that Getafe let him leave so cheaply or even didn’t value him more when he was there.
