Despite big names being linked with a move to Manchester United, the Red Devils have cast their eye on a young option to bolster their attack.
That man is Rasmus Højlund, currently the centre of attention at Old Trafford now that a deal for André Onana has been all but agreed.
Gazzetta dello Sport cover the situation on Wednesday, continuing from what had been said on Tuesday from other sources, which is that an offer from Manchester United is on its way.
With this in mind, they make it clear that Atalanta will ‘not make discounts’ for their young star, even if they know the player wants the move.
Gazzetta write that Højlund himself has ‘long accepted’ the idea of a move to Manchester United, and the eventual ‘economic marriage’ between the Red Devils and the Dane is ‘already 100% agreed’.
This is something Atalanta have known for a while, pretty much ever since the forward switched agents to the company that currently manages a certain Erik ten Hag.
They ‘expressed their willingness to take their client elsewhere’, which was a tactic that ‘was not liked’ in Bergamo, partially because it solely focused ‘on the higher earnings promised’ to the youngster by the Premier League side.
It’s also worth pointing out that Manchester United have yet to actually make an offer for the player, despite what has been reported elsewhere.
The belief is a fee of €65-70m would be needed to convince Atalanta, who have made it very clear they just want money and no counterparts in the deal.
Over at Corriere dello Sport, they have similar information, with it stated that the offer from Manchester United ‘is awaited’, who are thinking about an offer of €50m for the forward.
Their belief is the request is of €60m, but ‘in Bergamo, they are willing to negotiate’.
As for their stance on the player, his yes to Manchester United ‘came some time ago’, as the 19-year-old has ‘never hidden his fascination for the Premier League’.
