Manchester United need a new striker in the winter market and Wout Weghorst has been pushed forward as the main candidate.
He is on loan at Beşiktaş from Burnley and multiple reports in Turkey have indicated the Black Eagles need to first find a replacement before parting ways with him.
Algemeen Dagblad has ‘wonderful Weghorst’ on the front page of today’s newspaper, and they discuss Manchester United’s interest in him.
Within the report, they state the Netherlands international’s potential move to Old Trafford is perhaps the most wonderful transfer of this window. Erik ten Hag believes he is the type of player currently missing at United, both in terms of personality and sporting wise.
The report says ‘nobody believes in Weghorst as strongly as Weghorst himself’ and multiple incidents are used to explain it.
AD state: ‘You only had to look at the Oranje training sessions in Qatar, where Weghorst always raged like a beast in the days after a match. Where the disappointment was sometimes visible at other reserves, and where the basic players relaxed on their exercise bikes, Weghorst trained again and again as if his life depended on it.’
Weghorst’s struggles at Burnley didn’t impact his self-confidence, which has seen him become one of the key players at Beşiktaş. His impressive statistics for the Turkish club this season have seen Ten Hag consider bringing him to Manchester United.
‘His transfer to United is miraculous in many ways: even in England, people are surprised to see a striker who failed in Burnley suddenly appear at Old Trafford. But the chance that Weghorst’s period at United will pass unseen is very small,’ the newspaper states.
AD also point out the incident with Lionel Messi after Argentine defeated the Netherlands at the World Cup quarter-final.
This meant the whole world knows Weghorst, who is now ‘almost certainly’ the new striker of Manchester United. This also hints a move to Old Trafford is expected to be completed soon.
