Queens Park Rangers are keen on signing Sporting Gijón’s Jonathan Varane this summer.
On Wednesday, La Nueva España reported QPR are negotiating bonuses with Sporting Gijón. It was also suggested the two clubs could come to an agreement yesterday, but that didn’t happen.
El Comercio claim Martí Cifuentes’ side and the second division Spanish club haven’t found an agreement so far, but they continue to hold talks.
Sporting Gijón are requesting €1.5m for the midfielder, while QPR want to secure a deal for a lower price, and this is why they are yet to finalise things.
The Segunda División side have to raise funds and that’s encouraging the Frenchman’s sale to QPR. In fact, the report claims the deal is expected to ‘close this week’, if there aren’t any last-minute surprises.
Varane, for his part, wants to join the Championship side and he’s pleased with the wages offered by QPR. El Comercio further claim the player has ‘already closed’ an agreement with the English club for a four-year contract.
With Sporting Gijón expected to agree a deal with QPR, Varane could move to the London club this week.
