FC Basel midfielder Taulant Xhaka has admitted it is his “ultimate goal” to convince brother Granit Xhaka to re-join the Swiss side after he leaves Arsenal.
Taulant recently signed a new contract with the Swiss side that will see him stay with the club until June 2027.
He originally joined the first team in 2010 and after a loan spell at Grasshoppers between 2012/13 has been a regular for them ever since, making 347 appearances in total.
Unlike his famous brother he has never left Switzerland, whereas Granit left in 2012 for Borussia Monchengladbach and then Arsenal in 2016.
His current deal at the Emirates expires in June 2024 but Arsenal have an option to extend that by another year; something which is likely to happen as the midfielder has re-established himself under Mikel Arteta over the last few years.
This season he has featured in 94% of the available minutes in the Premier League and been in the starting XI 100% of the time when available, a clear sign of his importance to the Gunners and Arteta.
He is unlikely to depart anytime soon but his brother is hoping he can get him alongside him at Basel in the coming years.
“It’s difficult to put into words, but I’m just overjoyed,” BlueWin report him saying after the win over Trabzonspor which followed the announcement of his new deal.
“I’ve always said: Once in Basel, always in Basel. That means I will end my career here in Basel. And I just hope that I can play here again with Granit. That would be the ultimate goal.”
