On deadline day of the summer window, Marcos Alonso terminated his contract with Chelsea and completed a move to Barcelona.
The left-back spent six seasons at the west London club, winning every competition at domestic and continental level.
This includes success in the Champions League and Europa League, and also winning the title with Chelsea during the 2016/17 season.
Since moving to the Camp Nou, the Spain international has made 11 appearances in all competitions, which includes eight starts.
Sport on Monday have published an interview with the 31-year-old, where he was asked if he ‘took the risk’ to leave Chelsea for the Catalan club, where he signed a contract until the end of this season.
Responding to that, Alonso said: “At any point in my career, if you ask me which team I wanted to play for, I tell you that my basic desire was to play for Barça, like my father did.
“It is the team that was there when I was little and maybe it has been another risky decision, leaving the comfort zone, but it is a beautiful project, which motivates me a lot.
“After so much time away, playing in La Liga before the end of my career was something that I wanted, it was a plus for the decision.”
Alonso had to wait until the last day of the transfer window to get a move away from Chelsea.
When pressed whether he suffered in the summer, the defender said: “It was a bit stressful, but the other option was to stay at Chelsea, a team where I felt important. I’ve been there for many years and if I didn’t go out and stay there, it wouldn’t have been bad.”
