Even though the Brazilian media is well aware that Gustavo Scarpa is leaving Palmeiras for Nottingham Forest at the end of the year, there’s one special reason why the player never openly talked about it.

That was his campaign for the league title.

The Verdão, however, confirmed the trophy on Wednesday, meaning that they have now guaranteed the achievement, it’s a lot more likely that the midfielder will feel more comfortable speaking about his departure at the end of the contract.

Scarpa was interviewed by SporTV, and when asked about the move to Nottingham Forest, he talked about the ‘dream’ he will fulfil by finally getting to play in European football.

“While I’m happy, that I’m about to fulfil a dream, I’m sad that it took me so long to achieve what I achieved here at Palmeiras, to go out on a high,” Scarpa told SporTV (via Gazeta Esportiva).

“I can’t (project when the last game will be). I’ve been trying to avoid thinking about the future. I want to seize the moment. I can’t nail anything. I have two games here yet, I’m going to enjoy the moment.”

“I confess that I was very afraid after signing the contract, in case my performances weren’t so good, right? But it was the opposite. The fact that I dedicated myself made my performances skyrocket. The mental strength is absurd.”

Scarpa’s contract with Palmeiras expires in December, and he’s joining Nottingham Forest as a free agent.

Since the Brazilian media insists that he signed a pre-contract with Forest months ago, it doesn’t look like there’s any chance this deal could fall apart.

That’s despite the South American side trying to scupper that deal by paying a fee, which ended up being too expensive for them.
