Pierre Ekwah was a much used player for Sunderland in the 2023/24 season and it was his first full season as a regular at the Black Cats.
He scored five times but so far this season, he’s been on the bench and hasn’t played a single minute in the Championship. He did play the full 90 minutes in the League Cup tie against Preston, but he seems to be out of the core plans.
FootMercato report that the Sunderland man could be on his way out, with French side St.Etienne interested in the former West Ham youth player. The 22-year-old’s future might lie away from the Stadium of Light.
St. Etienne have ‘set their sights’ on the midfielder and are a fan of his profile. They are keen on signing a midfielder and Ekwah looks like the chosen one.
The situation is said to be one worth following, with the report ending with ‘to be continued’.
Sunderland, in the meantime, want €6-7m for Ekwah, who was born in France and has played for the country’s Under-20s side.
That latter part will no doubt attract him to French clubs.
