Leeds United defender Jaka Bijol is again being mentioned as a target for Fiorentina as they look to add a defender to their squad this month. Now the claims look even more ridiculous than they did initially.
Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Leeds centre-back is on the Italian side’s list this month.
Fiorentina are looking to be busy as they work to strengthen their squad and avoid relegation from Serie A this month. They’ve already hired Fabio Paratici as their new director of football to help conduct business.
Jack Harrison, Manor Solomon and Marco Brescianini have arrived on loan deals. But more transfers are expected before the end of January.
Gazzetta dello Sport report the focus is on a defender and that search is continuing. They have various names on the list, including the Leeds United defender. At this moment in time, he is behind the likes of Brighton’s Diego Coppola. Contacts with the Seagulls have intensified and the belief is that they’re open to a loan deal.
But Fiorentina are exploring various options and Bijol is one of them. He joined Leeds in the summer for €18m and has made himself important for Daniel Farke’s side this season.
Idea to sign Leeds United player doesn’t stack up
Fiorentina seemingly think it’s worth testing the waters. A report earlier this month linked him with a potential departure. Any pursuit would be strange, though, given Bijol is currently injured. He missed the 1-0 win over Fulham at the weekend.
Daniel Farke later confirmed he had suffered a hamstring injury. That’s expected to keep him out for three-to five weeks. In other words, beyond the end of the January transfer window.
That would, then, presumably rule out a transfer. At the very least it makes zero sense for Fiorentina to put Bijol at the top of their list.
