Palmeiras seriously considered trying to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal this summer, the Brazilian media says.
With Endrick leaving for Real Madrid, the club need a new centre-forward, and since they’ve been making many big sales, they have good conditions for a high investment.
According to UOL’s Raphael Reis, they thought about Jesus, but now know that landing him from Arsenal would be ‘impossible’ at this stage.
That’s simply because of his salary. The striker’s salary at the Gunners is equal to Palmieras’ top eight earners combined.
It’s claimed that even if Jesus accepted to cut his salary in half, he would still be making twice as much as the best paid athlete in Brazil.
That’s why Palmeiras have to leave that plan aside for now, and should focus on other targets in the transfer market.
The reason why Jesus was even considered is because he hasn’t been a nailed on starter at Arsenal. Playing for the Gunners this season, the Brazilian had eight goals and eight assists in 36 appearances.
