On Thursday, reports coming out of the English press stated Newcastle United are looking at Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Later that day, ESPN journalist Taylor Twellman reported the Gunners have put in a strong big for New England Revolution’s Matt Turner.
Twellman’s claims are relayed by Transfermarkt.de, who then go on to provide their own information on the Magpies’ interest in the Germany international. It’s claimed the keeper has ‘received a request’ from the Tyneside club.
Leno has has made only seven appearances in all competitions this season and has lost his place in the north London club’s starting lineup to Aaron Ramsdale. Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s man is ‘willing to listen to offers’.
A move away from the Emirates could help the former Bayer Leverkusen man have more minutes, which is necessary for him to make it to the Germany squad for the Qatar World Cup.
Transfermarkt.de explain ‘nothing is decided yet’. Newcastle could give the Arsenal man more game time ahead of the World Cup.
Eddie Howe has Martin Dubravka, Freddie Woodman, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie as the four goalkeepers at his disposal.
The report says it is ‘unclear’ if all four would still be at Newcastle beyond the winter transfer market. If one or more were to leave, it could make room for Newcastle to sign Leno in January.
