Having a very good first full season at Manchester United, Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho was supposed to be soon making his debut for the national team.

The 18-year-old was set to take part in their upcoming friendlies, but due to an ankle injury with the Red Devils, he had to stay out of the squad.

As Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni today gave a press conference (via TyC Sports) to talk about the squad, he was quizzed about the Manchester United youngster.

That was a question about the absences of Papu Gomez and Garnacho. And the coach expressed his disappointment at the pair missing out.

“The two absences are a pity. Especially that of Papu, who deserved to be here. It is understandable that they do not let him come, but we will do everything possible so that he can be with us for a day or two,” said Scaloni.

Regarding Garnacho, Scaloni made sure to say the youngster will continue having opportunities to make his debut for the national team.

“We trust that Garnacho can be in the next call-up, he’s a boy in whom we have high hopes.”

Garnacho got injured in Manchester United’s clash against Southampton. Since then, he missed the Europa League clash against Real Betis and the FA Cup tie against Fulham.

Despite the two-week hiatus that Erik ten Hag’s side are having, it’s still unclear when the winger will be fit to play again.
