While Jorginho might have not been happy with Arsenal’s performance against Porto at a stadium that held good memories for him, he might have consoled himself with the fact his former side, Napoli, got a draw against Barcelona.
The midfielder, who has been with the Gunners since a transfer from Chelsea in 2023, came off the bench for the last 16 minutes of the fixture, but was unable to stop his side from walking away with a loss.
Over in Naples, the Arsenal player’s ex-team snatched a draw thanks to a Victor Osimhen goal under new manager Francesco Calzona, who is in charge of trying to redress a sorry situation at the club, which Jorginho commented on on Sky Italia, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.
He said: “It is certainly a surprise to see a team in difficult after they won the league. It’s a pity for those who follow Napoli and those who love this club. I hope they recover soon.”
Napoli were runaway winners of Serie A last season under Luciano Spalletti, but have really struggled to get going this year, first under Rudi Garcia and then Walter Mazzarri, both having to be fired early after poor results.
As for Jorginho, the. move to Arsenal has been a mix of ups and downs for the Italy international, who finds himself struggling to secure a starting spot under Mikel Arteta, featuring on the initial line up just 11 times in all competitions this season.
