Jerry Mbakogu is back running around a football pitch. Hurrah!
In February, Carpi’s general manager Matteo Scali was quoted as saying: “There’s a gentleman agreement with Leeds for June.”
That and further comments and reports from Italy have underlined Mbakogu is likely to be arriving at Elland Road this summer, but there’s been some worry about the player.
Firstly, Mbakogu doesn’t exactly score a lot of goals for a striker. 8 goals and 3 assist this season, over Serie B and the Coppa Italia, aren’t terrible but not great either.
When it’s considered that’s from only 23 games things look a bit better.
Carpi think a lot of Mbakogu and it’s abundantly clear in comments given to the local media by club officials that he’s their most important player.
Perhaps a bigger worry for Leeds United has been a long standing knee issue. Mbakogu recently travelled to Barcelona to see Dr Ramon Cugat, probably the best known football doctor in Europe, and was given the all clear.
Carpi Calcio News have managed to get a picture of the player back in his first training session, and it’s a boost to both fans of the Italian club, and Leeds United’s transfer plans.
