Peterborough United’s Gustav Lindgren has dismissed suggestions he’s been relegated to the U21s.

On Tuesday, the striker scored the later winner in Peterborough United U21s 4-3 victory over Barnsley.

Claims from media close to Peterborough United reported the 24-year-old has failed to impress for the senior team. Therefore, he was dropped to the U21 side.

After these claims emerged, Fotbollskanalen got in touch with the player himself to get his reaction. When responding to it all, the Swede gave his side of the storry. He has also explained the reason for playing with U21s.

“I’m not relegated to the U21 team. It is more my desire to play matches with them if I am not allowed to play with the A-team. I have told the coach that,” he said.

Fotbollskanalen pointed out it’s the first time he’s been left out of the first-team training since moving to England.

When asked if he has received an explanation from Darren Ferguson, Lindgren explained: “I don’t know if I want to go into it to be honest. He has his opinion and I have mine.”

Peterborough United exit considered ahead of January: “Yes, of course”

The frontman joined the League One side from Degerfors IF in January and has three goals and three assists from 29 matches. He failed to score and has one assist from 12 matches this season.

The Swede is unhappy that he’s only started twice this season and has had to regularly come off the bench. His contract last until 2027 but he isn’t ruling out an exit in January.

“Yes, of course. It has come up [leaving in January] many times. But football can change very quickly,” he added.

“It is difficult to gather momentum when you come on. It is easier when you start every week, but the times I have come on I think I contribute energy. I have done well, or quite okay, but of course I could have done better.”

For now, Lindgren remains hopeful that he’ll be appreciated by Peterborough United.

“Over time I know that my qualities will show. I hope they [Peterborough] appreciate them. If you are patient, things will probably turn around quite quickly,” the attacker said.
