Rodrigo Moreno spent three years at Leeds United before joining Qatari side Al-Rayyan SC last summer.
The forward personally had a good final season with the Whites, who were relegated to the Championship. He scored 13 goals and registered one assist from 31 Premier League games, and managed two goals and an assist from three FA Cup matches.
A Bola have published an interview with the former Leeds man where they discussed several topics, including his experience of playing currently under Leonardo Jardim at Al-Rayyan and Jorge Jesus at Benfica in the past.
The Portuguese newspaper are of the belief the 32-year-old was still in his prime when he left Leeds for the Middle East club. When asked about his decision, Rodrigo explained that this move was the right choice for his career.
“Well, it was a very personal matter, this possibility arose and there was the circumstances at Leeds, on a personal level I can say it was a positive season. I even managed to finish with the Nations League title with the Spanish national team,” he said.
“But football and life are circumstances, they are moments, they are opportunities, they are decisions, I considered that, given the circumstances I found myself in, it was the best option.
“I was also eager to face this new experience on a professional and personal level, living in a completely different country compared to what I was used to. And it has been very positive, I am very satisfied with the path and the decision I made.”
Operating mainly as a No.9 and at times on the left wing, Rodrigo has scored five goals and registered four assists from 10 games for Al-Rayyan.
Rodrigo was joined in Qatar by a few other big names from Europe, including Philippe Coutinho, Marco Verratti and Julian Draxler The former Leeds man has backed the league in that country to become more competitive in the next few years.
